The Winning Recipe
The Bombay Ice Tea | Anu Mukherjee (IG-blazingbolt)
Gin is one of the most versatile spirits and thanks to the many botanicals, we can make a myriad of cocktails. “The Bombay Ice Tea” is my version of using this incredible spirit and giving it a Desi Twist.
Ingredients
50ml of Bombay Sapphire (or any good quality gin)
1 Twinnings – Lemon Ginger Teabag (or any lemon ginger tea)
15ml simple syrup
15ml ginger syrup
10ml lemon juice
10ml Cointreau (or any good quality orange liqueur)
Ice Cubes
Lemon wheel and Ginger candies for garnish
Directions
1. Start by brewing your tea; dip the teabag in 90ml of hot water and let it brew for 5 minutes.
2. Let it cool for a few minutes (you can add a few ice cubes to accelerate the process).
3. Next, take a Boston Shaker and add 50ml Gin, 90ml iced tea, 15ml each of simple syrup & ginger syrup, 10ml of freshly squeezed lemon juice, 10ml of orange liquor and plenty of ice. 4.Give it a good shake and let all the ingredients mix thoroughly. Strain using a hawthorne strainer (any other strainer would also do) into a mason jar filled with ice cubes.
5. Garnish with a lemon wheel and ginger candies on a fancy toothpick.
My favourite recipe for chilled “Tea-sing” Gin cocktail is take a Tom Collins glass and fill it 3/4th with ice cubes. gently pour 20ml of Dry Vemouth while constantly stirring the ice with a glass stirrer. Pass the same through a strainer into a SS Shaker. Crush the ice that remains and use it last as a garnish to the final drink. Pour 50ml Tanqueray10 Gin into the Shaker and add 100ml of chilled Peach Ice tea. Add 30ml lime juice and crushed mint leaves, and shake for 15 seconds. Pour it over a cocktail glass with the previous crushed ice. Garnish this potent cooler with a slice of lemon.!!
Since peaches are in season, why not make a drink out of them?! Here’s a recipe of the ‘Peach-ing’, Prepare about 500ml of your Iced Peach tea as per the instructions. Transfer to a jug, add 2 diced peaches, chill in the fridge and let it infuse. In a studio rock glass, add a couple of ice cubes, some crushed basil, 30ml peach schnapps, 60ml Gin (of your choice), followed by 200ml of the chilled peach ice tea and stir. Garnish with a wedge of peach. Cheers!
